Before and After Juvederm Injections
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is a gel made of hyaluronic acid, the main component of collage. As we age, we lose collagen in the skin. This allows skin wrinkles and hollows to form. Juvederm can replace the loss due to aging and reverse the wrinkles and hollows.
The results are immediate and there is no downtime:
- Soften facial lines and wrinkles
- Add plumpness to the cheeks and lips
- Help you maintain a more youthful appearance
How Does It Work?
Juvederm is injected into the the dermis – the subsurface layer of the skin – in the areas to be treated. It can be smoothed or sculpted after being injected, resulting in natural-looking skin contour. Hyaluronic acid adds volume and hydration to smooth your face. Hyaluronic acid also binds with existing collagen and elastin. This makes the skin firmer and results in a more youthful appearance.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Treatment areas commonly include hollow cheeks and the folds between the nose and outer corners of the mouth. Juvederm is also useful for enhancing lip volume and reshaping cheek contours.
What Can I Expect?
Most patients need just one treatment to smooth wrinkles and improve skin volume. For very deep folds, more than one injection may be given. The results can last for up to a year or more.
Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen should be avoided for at least a week prior to injection to reduce the risk of bleeding or bruising.
The dermal filler has lidocaine (a local anesthetic) in it to minimize discomfort during the injection. Following injection, the area is gently massaged to get just the right contour with the gel. You may resume your normal activities as soon as your treatment is completed.
Are There Side-Effects or Risks?
Side effects may include swelling or tenderness at the injection site. If these occur, they usually subside within days. Bumps or bruises are uncommon side effects and usually subside within a week. Juvederm is not recommended for people allergic to proteins or a history of anaphylaxis.
