Redness

Persistent or reactive redness caused by inflammation, vascular changes, or sensitivity, often triggered by environmental and internal factors.

Causes

Redness can arise from a range of underlying factors, including chronic inflammation, rosacea, broken capillaries, sun damage, and a compromised or sensitive skin barrier. Environmental triggers such as heat, wind, spicy foods, and alcohol can further exacerbate these symptoms.

Types

Redness may present in several ways, depending on the cause and skin response:

  • Persistent redness – ongoing flushing that remains consistently visible
  • Transient redness – redness that comes and goes, often triggered by external or internal factors
  • Visible capillaries (telangiectasia) – small, dilated blood vessels that appear near the skin’s surface
  • Rosacea-related redness – often accompanied by heightened sensitivity or acne-like breakouts

Treatments

A personalized approach to treatment may include medical-grade skincare such as Plated Calm, ZO Rozatrol, and SB Clearing Serum; in-office treatments like Botox, BBL Heroic or BBL Smooth, and the Motus Pro Glow Facial; as well as prescription options including topical compounds or low-dose Accutane, depending on severity and presentation.
